Short story writer David Mohrmann will read some of his new short stories in the Iguana TV Room at 2.00 p.m. on Wednesday 8th Feb. David was a popular performer at the (now defunct) Atitlan Art Center where he read to packed houses. You and your friends are all invited. Please be on time to this FREE event as the doors will close when the performance begins and you will not be admitted. And, por favor, no dogs...

Ayuda! Para la Salud de Perros y Gatos is an all-volunteer group of people dedicated to the welfare of dogs and cats in the Lake Atitlan region. We began work in Santa Cruz on 27 January with a mini sterilization clinic. These are designed for no more than 10 animals to reduce stress on the animals and to ensure quality. Evelyn who works in the Puesto de Salud office has offered to keep a running list of animals in need and to help prioritize them. We request small donations from original Guatemalans or some form of barter; however, they are never turned away. Extranjeros are asked to pay Q200 for sterilizations to cover our costs. We expect to be back in Santa Cruz on 18 February. We need to collect old blankets, towels, sheets, etc. for use during mini clinics in Santa Cruz and need a volunteer willing to collect, keep and clean them after the clinics. If you are interested in helping, please contact Selaine: 5771 6532. Thank you and see you soon in Santa Cruz!
