A few weeks ago I wrote about Roberto Luz' concept of a Club Cultural Atitlán to produce free music and other cultural events for the Atitlán community. (see: http://santacruzlalaguna.weebly.com/blog/photo-of-the-week-this-week-cafe-sabor-cruceno-club-cultural-atitlan-charge-those-batteries-follow-up-on-poll-weekly-rainfall-report?)
Roberto has gotten enough verbal commitment that he is now set to actually begin collecting funds. This is a really innovative idea for the community and I hope people will support it. Financial contributors of Club Cultural Atitlán will receive a membership card and button and, hopefully in the future, a Club Culture magazine.

I am very sorry to report that Santa Cruz taxi driver Bartolo Ajcalon was killed early Sunday morning when the little green taxi car that he drove daily between the Santa Cruz muelle and the village went over the edge of the road. Bartolo, aged 20 years or so, was the brother of boat captain Ramos Ajcalon and leaves a wife and young son. Condolences to the family. Rest in peace.
Funeral arrangements are pending.

I am very please to be able to award another Community Service Award! This one goes to Åge Randmael and Helle Sandvik of Santa Cruz la Laguna. Åag and Helle have had the lakeside path along their property substantially improved. Thanks Åge and Helle!
Meanwhile, Mona Naimark continues to make improvements to the lakeside path near her property! Mona was awarded a Community Service Award a few months ago: http://santacruzlalaguna.weebly.com/blog/photo-of-the-week-this-week-community-service-award-cecap-courses-disaster-procedures-song-for-paxanax-more-tripadvisorr-live-streaming-planet-earth-ufo-or-uaf-poll-lake-level-weekly-rainfall-report?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SantaCruzLaLagunaGuatemala-Blog+%28Cruz+News+Blog%29
After her return from her brief trip to the U.S., Mona has continued to improve the path beyond just that which fronts her property. Many thanks, Mona!
If you know of someone who is deserving of a Community Service Award, please let me know through the Contact Form.

For a project at CECAP we are collecting used plastic bags including plastic bags that food products are packaged in of any size, shape or color. Preferably colorful ones and not just black. They can be ripped or torn, with or without writing, but need to be clean. I need these by the 14th. This will be a great way to recycle and upcycle those bags that we inevitably get even though we don't want them. Please call me or message me and I will arrange to pick them up. This is the first try at this and if it works, we will be asking for more so don't throw them away just yet! Thanks! Cynthia

A few weeks ago several thefts by the same person were reported in Jaibalito. I was told by those affected that the items have since been returned to their rightful owners.
