This week's Photo of the Week was taken by me in San Juan la Laguna. This is one of the murals that are in San Juan. I loved the explosion of color and form that is coming out of the woman's loom and weaving!
If you have any photos you would like to submit for Photo of the Week, please let me know through the Contact Form. Photos of the Week can be anything related to the Lake Atitlan area.

Beginning on July 1, the U.S. FACTA regulations take effect. FACTA is the Foreign Account Tax Compliant Act. If you are a U.S. citizen or green card holder with a Guatemala bank account, you need to be aware of this. To learn more about FACTA go to: http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Corporations/FATCA-Information-for-Individuals
Your Guatemala bank must be in compliance with the U.S. government regulations or your funds could be subject to a 30% withholding of funds. So how do you know if you Guatemala bank is in compliance? Go to: http://apps.irs.gov/app/fatcaFfiList/flu.jsf
Enter Guatemala as the country and then click on Search. In the second column click on Financial Institution and it should alphabetize the banks. Is your bank there? Mine wasn't. Banco Agromercantile. Why? I wrote to them to ask. It was because the listing was as of May 23 and they were approved on June 3. So Banco Agromercantil is in compliance. http://www.bam.com.gt/index.php/facta
According to the list, so is: Banco Industrial S.A., Banco Inmobliario, S.A., G&T. If your bank isn't listed, contact your bank. It could be that they are compliant but not yet on the list.
