This week's photo is by.... your's truly. We have had several stunning photos of the Lake over the last few weeks and I thought I would offer something a bit different. I took this photo in February of 2006 of these 3 lovely Santa Cruz ladies as they were watching a demonstration of a wood efficient stove that was being distributed in Santa Cruz.
If you have a photo to submit for the Photo of the Week series, please contact me.

Learn about the Guatemalan tradition of kite making (barriletes) and the Kaqchiquel Maya custom of making Giant Kites for the Day of the Dead in Sumpango, Sacatepequez. Make your own Guatemalan kite using tissue paper and glue, creating a design unique to you! Then let your kite take flight with your fellow kite makers and feel your spirit rise. A fun, educational and unique cultural experience!
Julio Asturias has been a barriletero for over 20 years and has helped to create giant kites as well as to construct and fly kites of all sizes. He has exhibited some of the kites of Sumpango by invitation in Columbia, France & Singapore. Julio travels throughout Guatemala teaching the culture of kite making to children and adults.

From Ana......

Lee Beal found this interesting website that shows aerial panoramic views of Tikal and other historical (and not so historical) sites. From the AirPano website:
¨AirPano is a non-commercial project focused on high resolution 3D aerial panoramas. The AirPano team is a group of Russian photographers and panorama enthusiasts. During the next 2-3 years, we plan to shoot a variety of aerial panoramas and create virtual 3D tours of the most interesting places of our planet."

People have been asking me to repost information on how to recycle here at the Lake. The Centro de Acopio (Recycling Center) is located on Calle de Navidad in Panajachel. Go "up" Calle Principal, pass Chalo's one block, turn right and go about the equivalent of 1-1/2 blocks. It is on the right. (see map). There is a green door. If you take a tuk tuk, tell the driver, "Centro de Acopio." He will know where to go
Stephanie Poulhes reports that they will take all kinds of glass, tin cans, aluminum cans, paper (carton, magazines), plastic bottles and all kinds of plastic. You DO NOT have to separate everything as they will do it there. But PLEASE! ONLY RECYCLABLES!

Another way to recycle! Sergio would like your used glass jars with tops, as many as you have! Any type. He will pick up, or meet you at the Iguana Saturday Market, or you can drop off at the house! Please call: 3039-1018 or email: [email protected] to make arrangements.
